"H.M.A.S. Yarra", a River Class Torpedo Baot Destroyer, built by Denny in Dumbarton. She was laid down in 1909 and launched on 9/4/1910. She was commissioned on 10/9/1910. The "Yarra" arrived in Melbourne with the "Parramatta" in December 1910 she was ordered to German New Guinea at the outbreak of war, "Yarra" and her sister ships aided other ships in the successful take over of the enemy territories. During August 1914 "Yarra" was part of the search for Von Spee's powerful squadron which was believed to be in Rabaul but was actually more than 1,600 miles north. After service in Borneo and Malayan Waters "Yarra" went to the Mediterranean and was based at Malta and later Brindisi. She and her sister ships carried patrols in and blockaded the Adriatic sea, barring the escape of German and Austrian submarines in 1917. In April "Yarra" joined the British 5th destroyer flotilla and on August 8th collided with the "Huon" and underwent repairs at Leghorn until October. After service in the Black sea and a short time in English waters "Yarra" returned to Australia in May 1919. She was scrapped in September 1929.
