Built in 1913 by Alexander Stephen & Sons, Glasgow and first owned by Howard Smith Co, operated between Melbourne and Cairns. In 1917 she was commandeered as a troop ship and returned to Howard Smith in 1919 where she operated as a cargo ship for two months before a refit. In 1920 she resumed east coast passenger service until severely damaged by a fire in 1925. In 1941 she was commandeered as a troopship again and returned to howard Smith in 1947, when she was sold to Compania Maritima del Este of Panama (Greek controlled), refitted placed on migrant services to Australia and South America. In 1949 she was refitted and placed on UK - Canada service. In 1954 she was laid up at Bremerhaven, sold to the Navy of Dominican republic, renamed "Espana", placed on West Indies - Europe service until broken up in 1959.
