"H.M.S. Delhi", formerly a Royal Navy Warship, as "H.M.S. Achilles", built in 1933 and served with the home fleet until March 1936, when she was transferred to the New Zealand Division. In September 1939 she joined the South Atlantic command and took part in the Battle of the River Plate, when, with the cruisers "H.M.S. Exeter" and "H.M.S. Ajax", she helped to defeat the German pocket Battleship "Graf Spee". On 5th July 1948 "Achilles" was handed over to the Indian Navy and renamed "Delhi". A 'Leander' class cruiser of 7,000 ton, she was armed with 6 152mm guns, 8 102mm and 14 40mm AA guns. In 1958 she was converted to a training ship.
