Caption
"Ketches of South Australia" by R Parsons describes "Hawthorn" as a wooden 2 masted ketch, formerly of Hobart, with 1 deck & round stern. Built in 1875 in Franklin, Huon River, Tasmania, she was registered in Port Adelaide in Feb. 1876 by G. Foulis. Owners: 1885 - J.B. Anderson, 1890 - G. Baker, 1897 - C.D. Kinnear, by 1919 - W.H. Littley & A.H. Hasell, by 1941 - W.S. Murch. The register closed in 1961 when the vessel was broken up. In the underwriters register of 1919 it shows that the engine of 46hp had been fitted and the tonnage was 43 tons, however it was in 1927 that the official records were altered to show the vessel had an auxilliary engine and the tonnages were then given as 58 gross and 47 net.
