Cruiser "Canberra" was commissioned in 1928, one of 2 heavy cruisers commissioned that year, the other being 'Australia'. Due to the economic depression in 1930 only 4 ships were commissioned in that year. In March 1941 Canberra intercepted the German Supply ships 'Coburg' and 'Ketty Provig' in the Indian ocean. Canberra, 'Australia' and 'Hobart' assisted United States forces in the landings at Guadalcanal In the Solomon islands on August 7 1942.
