"Ketches of South Australia" by Ronald Parsons describes "Betty Joan" as a 78 gross ton vessel with auxillairy engines which reach 5 knots. Built by A McFarlane & son, Birkenhead in 1933, she was owned by M Irvine and MB Crouch. During world war 2, vessel was taken up by the commonwealth government and later reregistered at Port Adelaide in 1948, weighing 99 gross ton and owned by R Fricker & Co & EJ wright. In 1969 the vessel was owned by L Harmanis, A Kypreos and G Hartios in Darwin and operating from that Port.
