10 p.m. on Saturday April 26, 1924, the tragiv scene at No. 2 Quay where the petrol-laden City of Singapore exploded. Explosions aboard the ship were heard from up to 12 miles away. Three men were killed, a further 13 badly burned in what was the worst ship fire in Australia's history. No. 2 Quay was soon to be called "Tragedy Dock".
