Battle class destroyer, commissioned on 14/3/1951, built at Williamstown. This class was the first British destroyer with all armament forward. In July 1951 Anzac sailed to Japan to join the U.N. forces in the Korean war. After screening duties she opened fire for the first time at Communist targets in the area of Haiju. Anzac had two tours of service off Korea. Anzac had a varied life afterwards, escorting Royal yachts and participating in joint exercises. In the course of her duty Anzac circumnavigated Australia and visited many pacific nations. In 1963 Anzac became a training ship after a limited conversion. The training of midshipmen cadets occupied the majority of her life after 1963. In May 1964, she hosted the Governor-General, Viscount DeLisle, On a cruise around New Guinea waters. From October to November 1966 she carried out survey duties off the north west coast before having a refit. In June 1966 she escorted troop carrier'Sydney' to Vietnam and the following September visited Tahiti, Apia, western Samoa and New Zealand. Anzac steamed 688,953 miles, was underway 51,618.3 hours, and fired a total of 12,500 rounds from her 4 inch guns during a career spanning a quarter of a century. Anzac was sold in 1975.
