H.M.A.S. "Voyager" served with the Royal Navy along with 3 sister ships from the late stages of World War One up until 1933 when all four ships were transferred to the Royal Australian Navy in October 1933. Voyager and her sister ship Vampire left Singapore for the Meditteranean in Nov 1939, being ordered to search for the enemy raider 'Admiral Graf Spee' whilst en route. All four of this class became known to the Germans as the 'scrap iron flotilla'. Voyager undertook the initial Tobruk run in May 1941, which was taking troops and supplies from Alexandria to Tobruk and collecting wounded and other troops for the return. She and her sister ships made 139 runs. On 23 September after spending most of the year on patrol and convoy duties in Australian waters, she grounded on a reef at Timor while landing commandoes, stuck fast, she was blown up by her own crew.
