American non-magnetic brigantine yacht built specifically for surveys of the earth's magnetism/electricity and carried out six cruises for this. The seventh cruise under Captain JP Ault left Washington DC 1 May 1928 to pursue this program and also to undertake oceanographic research for three years in all oceans. The cruise came to an abrupt end on 29 November 1929, when a petrol explosion at Apia, Western Samoa destroyed the vessel and killed the Captain and the cabin boy.
