The Commonwealth left London in December 1895 and arrived in Melbourne on 16 April 1896, then proceeded to Newcastle, NSW to South America; then arrived in Frederikstad, Norway on 4 August 1897, on to the north of Scotland and arrived in Sydney 20 November 1897. She left Sydney for the return voyage on 7 February 1898. Voyage took 39 days to Cape Horn because of icebergs. Arrived in Boston 7 June 1898. Proceeded to Buenos Ayres and then arrived in Albany WA on 8 January 1899. She left Albany on 4 March 1899 for home via the Cape of Good Hope and arrived in June 1899.
