Steamer foundered on 17 Nov 1872 at Port Gregory, near Geraldton, WA due to overloading, and was located by divers in the 1980s. The wreck was mapped by photogrammetry and the Xantho's historical horizontal steam engine was raised for restoration, conservation and exhibition in the WA Maritime Museum;
