John and Ann Adams brought eight of their ten children to South Australia in 1849. They boarded the ship in Plymouth as they were from the Redruth area in Cornwall. John was born in 1796 in Port Isaac and Ann was born in 1800 in Redruth. John was a stonemason and builder but no proof has been found that he continued this occupation in South Australia. The family lived in North Adelaide. Six daughters and one son married in Adelaide.
