James Bennett, Aaron's father stated in his will (1824) that Aaron was to be apprenticed out as a wheelwright, which he started aged 16, on 23 September 1825 to Joseph Simms for a period of four and a half years.
Aaron arrived in the colony in 1849 on the ship "India", with wife Catherine, and children Thomas 8, George 1, and daughter Sarah was born at sea.
Aaron worked as a wheelwright in Adelaide for three years, then with his family travelled by bullock dray to Delamere where he became a shepherd for William Randall. A piece of land known as "Stockyards" was leased and a house of slabs containing three rooms, with calico windows was built. This served the family for several years. His brother Moses and family lived on an adjoining section. Two sons, Joseph and John were born in Australia.
On 11 April 1976, descendants attended a gathering at "Sunnybank", Delamere when the house was designated a National Trust Home.
