Stephen Simmons PAGE (8/11/1834-14/7/1905), a mason (like generations before him) arrived in South Australia onboard the CAUCASIAN on about the 24/12/1857. He left Cornwall to join his older brother Robert Rickman PAGE (architect and builder) with his building activities in South Australia. Robert designed Balhannah St Thomas Anglican church which still stands today. In Blakiston 8/8/1861, Stephen married Mary HAYMAN (1840-1912) who arrived in South Australia with her parents and siblings on the barque Trafalgar 30/3/1850. 8 children were registered as being born in the Echunga and Clare areas. Stephen died in the Wellington district on the 14/7/1905 An article in the Mount Barker Courier 21/7/1905; Southern Argus 20/7/1905 & The Register of 18/7/1905, explains he had lived in Oakbank (1857), and then moving to Clare and finally Echunga(1859). As a builder and a master plasterer, Mr Page worked in most of the surrounding areas including Clare, Oakbank, Hahndorf, Broken Hill, Wellington and Lake Albert. An early member of the A.O.F in Echunga and later Clare. At time of his death he left his widow, 5 sons, 2 daughters and 7 grandchildren. Reason for death, at aged 70 unknown, but was unexpected.
