Surname is BOTT, although Shipping Intelligence published 24 Jul 1847 in the South Australian Register, states "Samuel Bolt wife and child". The arriving family were 31 year old Samuel BOTT, his 26 year old wife Sarah (nee SHORTLAND) and 1 year old baby son John. From Brigstock and Geddington, Northamptonshire, Samuel was a farmer. After arrival in South Australia, they lived at Blakiston, Hay Valley and Native Valley, where Samuel engaged in farming and copper carting, before the couple retired to Callington. Samuel and Sarah had a total of eight children, six of whom lived into adulthood. They have many descendants. Sarah died 16 May 1904 and Samuel died 21 Dec 1904, both at Callington, where they are buried at Callington Cemetery. A notice in the Southern Argus (Port Elliot) 29 Dec 1904, states that Samuel arrived in the colony in 1848 aboard the British Sovereign, although the ship actually arrived at Port Adelaide 16 Jul 1847.
