Description

Born on 1 November 1848 in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, England. Departed England as an assisted emigrant on 18 December 1875. Worked as a boilermaker in Balaklava, South Australia from about 1880 to 1885. Married Mary Esther Mather (daughter of Publican, George Mather) on 18 July 1886 in St Ignatius Church in Norwood, South Australia. The couple had six children: Henry Thomas Wallace (1887-1956); George Wallace (1891-1892); Alexander Charley Wallace (1893-1962); Grace Esther Wallace (1899-1979); Edith Alice Wallace (1901-1989) and Edwin Arthur Wallace (1904-1936). Jesse and his family moved to Western Australia sometime between 1895 and 1899 where he lived in East Fremantle and continued working as a boilermaker. He died at home (152 Sewell Street, East Fremantle) on 14 April 1909 age 60 and was buried in Fremantle Cemetery.
