I have a copy of the memoirs of Herbert Major Downes, one of the 3 sons of Lt Cl Downes. Herbert was my great grandfather. I migrated to Australia from South Africa in January 1999 and now live in Brisbane. Herbert’s son Harold was my grandfather after whom I am named.
