Miss. Annie ROCHE

Annie Roche (b. 1888) from Barrow-in-Furness (seated in centre of photo) was my grandmother. Her full name was Rose Ann Roche. Her family was of Irish descent but lived in the North of England in the wake of the Great Famine. After arriving in Adelaide in 1912 she worked for the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Adelaide as a housemaid and cook. She later married William Bell (b. 1887) from Hebden, Yorkshire in Berrigan, NSW. William was a blacksmith. They settled in Melbourne in 1917. She died in 1977 in Melbourne.
