The Adelaide, Captain William Clark was chartered in 1833 by Consul Robert Hesketh in Rio de Janeiro to transport the survivors of the Hibernia tragedy, an emigration ship which had caught fire mid Atlantic with the loss of 152 emigrants and crew. 69 passengers survived and after 7 days at sea in boats were rescued by the convict ship the Lotus and the Guernsey brig Isabella and taken to Rio de Janeiro. Adelaide departed from Rio de Janeiro on 13/3/1833 and arrived at Hobart Town, Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on 20/5/1833.
