My Father came from Bremerhaven Germany and landed in Quebec on August 3rd, 1953. was anyone else on this voyage? pictures?

My father, mother and myself (3 yrs old) landed in Canada on August 3, 1953 on this ship.

I came to Canada on this ship after WW2 on December 29th 1951 .We left Bremerhaven on December 17th ,1951 and arrived in Halifax December 29th 1951.

My father, mother, paternal uncle and I arrived on the Anna Salen on February 8, 1952 from Germany or Austria, I'm not sure. I don't know where we boarded. Was anyone on that voyage and knows where we boarded?

I believe my parents, half brother Peter and I arrived in Sydney, Australia on 22.6.1949 aboard this ship. My mother Monica Schulha was Polish, dad Hordi Schulha was Ukranian. I was born in Judenberg Austria in1945. My brother Peter is in his nineties. His son Alex has been writing and researching the lives and stories of people who were at Greta camp after the war. When the Anna Salen docked in Sydney there were 1503 displaced persons on board. I have a photo of us all on board the day we docked.

My family and I also came to Halifax on the Anna Salen December 29th, 1951. We boarded at Le Havre with Montreal as our destination. My father was Emilio Subirana (1922-2007) and my mother Carmen Fernandez (1924-). My sister and I were born in France after our parents had left Spain by sneaking through the border. We originally had a refugee application for Brazil but we instead went to Canada. This was apparently the last free trip to Canada paid for by the International Refugee Organization. I remember the ship rolling very much and being tossed down the hallways by the motion. The other thing I remember was the awful smell coming from the cafeteria. I don't know what it was but I will never forget it. Everyone was very seasick except for the kids. My parents tell me there were several abandon ship alarms and that it was the worst storm in 25 years on the North Atlantic. We were very impressed by all the lights in Halifax but were given salted butter by the immigration people which we found disgusting. Canada worked out just fine for all concerned. My Uncle (Ignacio Subirana), aunt (Lola Pujol), cousins (Libert, Sara) and grandparents (Ignacio Subirana, Julia Gras) followed shortly after but had to pay their passage.

My Grandparents in law ( E&P Tafeit ) came to Canada on this ship after WW2 on December 29th 1951 . They departed Bremerhaven on December 17th ,1951 and arrived in Halifax December 29th 1951. I am seeking the passenger manifest and or photos of this ship and maybe even the actual voyage, I,m told it was a rough trip over. If anyone has information that may help please contact me.

My father, Kazimierz Grzegorek, also arrived in Halifax on December 29th, 1951 on Anna Salen. He told me the seas were rough and many were seasick including crew members. He volunteered to help out in the galley as a cook since even the ships cooks were seasick. He arrived in Halifax with a few smoked sausages that he was given as thanks for helping on the ship, but the sausages were confiscated upon arrival. He eventually made his way to Levis QC and then later to Montreal where he settled. I would like to see the ships manifest, passenger list for that sailing if it is available.

I am researching my family history, my Grandfather Ladislav Purkard came from Bremerhaven in April of 1951 to Halifax to seek work and housing, my Grandmother came shortly after in August of 1951 with 6 girls in tow, they lived in Madsen Ont for 2 years while my Grandfather worked in the mines, after that they moved to Winnipeg MB where they settled.. looking for any information.. thank you.

January, 1952: Mutti & I boarded ship in Bremerhaven. Our vessel was the 11 672 ton, 492 x 69 ft., Anna Salén, flying the Swedish flag. Like the Fairsea, there were no cabins, just huge open spaces with triple-decker bunks, so cramped you couldn’t sit up straight in them. Men were assigned to one section, women to the other. Being only 9, I was just young enough to be with my mother. The toilet and shower facilities were one huge, long affair and everywhere there was a strong smell of cleaner/disinfectant.. We made our way through the English Channel to the North Atlantic, which at this time of year is very rough— no one was allowed on deck for two days. We saw icebergs. Many people were seasick, but not us. They threw up all over the place, often not making it in time to use the barrels provided for the purpose. Much of the time Mutti had to care of two little girls (2 ½ & 1 year old) whose mother was sick, so I was often on my own. On board, Mutti befriended (or had she already done so in Camp Grohn) Miss Meta Vilsone, a refugee from Latvia. Mutti called her “our guardian angel”. We docked in Halifax, becoming "landed immigrants" on Feb.8, 1952.

My mother worked for the IRO resettlement office in Ottawa, Quebec, from 1949 - 1951. In her role she liaised closely with Jack Tepas, IRO port officer in Halifax, Nova Scotia. When the IRO mandate ended in December 1951, Mr Tepas arranged for my mother to meet one of the young girls she had helped to resettle to Canada who was on board the Anna Salen when she arrived in Halifax c. 15th December 1951. Her job done, my mother sailed back to Europe with the IRO, leaving Halifax on 17th December 1951. The attached media is taken from her photo album. Unfortunately the newspaper title is not mentioned.

My father Heinrich Bernhoerster left Bremerhaven aged 25 on the Anna Salem. I have his passenger ticket #856S. The ticket cites Melbourne as the destination, 10 September 1954.

My father was on the M.S. Anna Salen ship in 1951. He was born in Lomberg Poland. I have located a passenger list online and can now include this in my Family Tree. Just wanting to know if there is anyone else that had family members on the same ship in that year and may have photos of the people on board. He hadn’t share too much information in his years. However, I find history intriguing and will continue investigating.

Departed Bremerhaven early March 1953. Arrived Melbourne April 4, 1953 with my parents and two younger sisters. I had my 14th birthday on the ship and found the voyage a great adventure.

My parents and I departed Bremerhaven on 26th November 1951 sailing on the Anna Salen, arriving in Halifax on 6th December 1951.

My Opa Walter Herbert Feuerreiter arrived in 1952 Australia via this ship from Hamburg.

My father Leopold Jazwicki from Kielce Poland (only survivor from the camps) was on the Anna Salen and departed July 24th 1951 from Bremerhaven to Halifax. He kept his baggage check and other documents. Even have a photo from the ship.

My father and grandparents were on the ship Anna Salen from Germany or Austria and arrived in melbourne in the early 1950s prior to the completion of the MCG ( my father worked there to make concrete form work). The only documents that i have are certificates from the ship crossing the equator and happy to share copies. I would dearly like copies of any photos especially groups of people, that may be lucky to find my father or grandparents. Hope to hear from you Garry

My mother in law with my husband arrived on Feb 8th 1952 on the M/S Anna Salen. I have the immigration identification card . Bremerhaven Halifax is stamped on the card. Leda and Furio Gabrielli came from Trieste Italy. The ship left from Germany.

It was exactly 70 years ago that our family arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax, on April 20, 1951. Our group included my father and mother, Adalbert and Emilie, along with my siblings, Albert, John and Trudy. The German economy not in the best of shape at the time, my father decided to bring his family to Canada. All I remember of the trip is the high whitecap waves, and the wallowing of the ship. Which made us all pretty sick. Once in Halifax, we found ourselves on a train that brought us to Kitchener, Ontario, where my uncle - our sponsor - lived. Often, I recall that fateful voyage and wonder where we would be today, if my father hadn't made the decision he did.

My father Gyorgy Wolf came on this ship to Halifax in Feb. 8, 1952 from Bremerhaven, Germany. When he arrived he found that his sponsor from Montreal had died so he was held in a camp for 2 weeks until they found him another sponsor in Sydney NS where he settled and met my mother.

I am the son of Edgars and Lilija Lange. We landed at Pier 21 on 06 Dec. 1951 with my sister Laima. We had lived in many dp camps for the last 7 years after leaving our home in Straupe, Latvija. After a year in Halifax we went by train and started my new life in Ottawa. It has been a calm eventful life with lots of good memories. I will always remember that long voyage through the storm passing the Shetland Islands and the big waves, water cascading down the stairs where I slept in the middle bunk. It was scary but we arrived safe and sound in Halifax. I am thankful to this day to all the people that helped us escape to a peaceful country. Andris

My parents Hans and Martha Redenius along with six children arrived in Australia from Germany in July 1954 on Anna Salen. I am trying to find how long this trip may have taken

My parents and I arrived in Quebec City from Bremerhaven on August 2nd 1953. We had to stay on board the Anna Salen till the next day. On the 3rd we went through immigration and on the 4th we arrived at our new home in Ontario, via train. I was 7 months old back then. Both my parents are still alive and 68 years later, are still living on the farm that gave my dad a job. Anyone else on that ship with us??? I do have a few photos.

My parents arrived in Freemantle on 23/8/1949 with my sister Luba, mother Klara, father Ivan and me also called Ivan, surname as registered as Yevchenko but immigration got it wrong and called us JEWSZENKO. Can anyone give me details who to contact my parents history on the ship and arrival in Freemantle in August 1949. Many thanks, Ivan or John, its the same but in English and Ukrainian.

I have a sailor doll MS Anna Salen my aunt gave me many many years ago. She probably rode on this ship she did a lot of traveling.

I was 5 years old when my mother Maria Adam and my 2 older sisters arrived in Halifax on February 8th, 1952 after a very stormy voyage from Bremen on the SS Anna Salen. And then a 5 day train trip to Vancouver bc, where we were picked up by my Father who had come ahead to find a job and accommodation on a pig farm in Langley. We came from Salzburg Austria. Canada was a good place for us with many kind people. We pray that God would keep Canada "glorious and free"

Our family arrived aboard Anna Salen on Feb. 8 1952, 70 years ago today. Five of us, 3 boys and mom and dad. Free at last. I would love to connect with others from that same voyage.
