Demise

Royal Navy. 1820: Placed "in ordinary" (laid up). 1826 - 1830: Surveyed the coast of South America around Tierra del Fuego. Barque rigged. 1831 - 1836: Circumnavigation of the world via Tierra del Fuego & Galapagos Islands under Cpt.Robert Fitzroy with naturalist, Charles Darwin.Later: Surveying voyages to Australia & Southeast Asia. 1845: British coast guard as a watch vessel, name removed. Moored on the Crouch & Roach rivers in Essex for twenty five years. 1870: Sold at public auction. Believed broken up. 1888: Said to have been broken up in Japan after serving in that nations navy as a training ship until 1881.
