CHYEBASSA

Travelled on the Chyebassa c1945, Melbourne to Sydney, with my mother, when I was about 5 years of age. She was in flight from a broken marriage to my first stepfather. There was a cage of monkeys on deck that I fed and spent my days with them until I succumbed to sea sickness. Mother was relieved when I became ill and could be safely confined to the cabin, She feared for my safety - I think she called the crew 'Lascars' and she said the monkeys stank terribly.
