Demise

First screw propelled, ocean-going, wrought iron ship. Great Western Steamship Co. 1846: Ran aground on the sands of Dundrum Bay in Northern Ireland. 1852: Gibbs, Bright and Company, reg. Liverpool. Australian migrant service. 1854 - 5: Troopship for the Crimean War. 1858: Troopship to the Indian Mutiny. 1863: Carried the first ever English cricket team to tour Australia. Later: Clad in pine & engines removed. Carried coal to San Francisco around Cape Horn. Later: Hulked at Port Stanley, Falkland Islands. 1937: Beached & abandoned. 1970: Towed back to Bristol to be restored.
