This ship was owned by Joseph Steel & Son of Liverpool. He being my great-great grandfather. Our ships frequently sailed to Aust and NZ. Kirkwood would have been here when the original Ashes match was being played, in which AG Steel, son of Joseph participate. He is the Steel mentioned in the poem on the Ashes urn. The ship 'Kirkwood' is mentioned in a letter written home by AG Steel around the time of the match, 'Kirkwood' not yet arrived'.
