My wife Megan and I travelled on Mattawunga from Adelaide to Marseilles in late 1962. Nine passengers. We dined with First Officer Kuno Soder. Much of the daytime was spent at the ship's rail studying the vast span of ocean while drinking ice cold Tuborg beer. At the port of Jeddah we discharged wheat and beer. On the second day another Swedish cargo boat pulled in to the other side of the wharf. That evening, as a special concession, we were allowed to go across to the other ship here we watched the Ingmar Bergman film The Seventh Seal. Best thing about the voyage was the large stateroom we occupied. Brilliant! I'd go on such a trip tomorrow!
