1952 Oct.: Commisioned into RAN. 1964 Feb.10: Collided with HMAS Voyager in two killing eighty-two men, nineteen miles south-west of Jervis Bay. The damaged Melbourne returned to Sydney to undergo extensive repairs. 1969 June 3: Collided with and sank the United States destroyer Frank E. Evans in the South China Sea.
