John Blue (1847-1900) arrived on the Ocean Chief in April 1864. He was born in Argyllshire, Scotland and was a blacksmith and later a tinsmith by trade. He moved to Gumeracha and later to Angaston. He married Sarah Swann in 1855 and ran a general store in Gumeracha for a time. After his death his widow and three sons moved to Western Australia.

John Blue was the first captain of the Gumeracha Cricket Club formed around 1861. He was an opening batsman. This is rather unique for a Scotsman!
