Passenger Vessel "Orcades", built by Vickers Armstrong in Barrow-In-Furness, England and launched on 1 December 1936 by Mrs I.C. Geddes. Vessel was completed in July 1937 and had her inaugural voyage on 9 December 1937 from London - Brisbane. Base port:

I am seeing stories of people and voyages going to Australia. My family used to live in Durban and we came back home to Scotland on the Orcades. I remember so many things even though I was quite young. I was told, and truly understood, that we were on this beautiful ships final voyage from Durban to Southampton. I would love to find more info on the passenger lists etc etc but I can't find anything :-( Can anyone give me advice?? Please Thanks

In 1949 my family left uk for new life in Australia. We moved from Birmingham to casterton Australia aboard p and o oriana and came back years later on orcades

It's taken me a few years but I've finally found me. I was born in Whyalla when Mum and Dad emigrated in 1967 on the Ellinis but Mum wasn't happy was they went back to UK with me nearly 2 1/2 years old. 1st December left Adelaide for Southampton Only to return again on the Australis 16th Sept 1977. I was now 9, we docked in Heraklion for a day trip, I ran away from my parents... The ship made a big announcement; they thought I'd fallen overboard!. I was having pasta with my new Greek family, a famous Greek Leather goods family in the beautiful main street. Mamma gave me a green leather Greek bag as a gift. ! I didn't want to leave, the next port was Port Said... I wasn't allowed out of the cabin!
