Thomas James Jones, born 3rd June 1864, left Gravesend 28-10-1885 for Sydney. arriving at Sydney, New South Wales, in December of that year. His fiancée, Tassie, followed him after some months and they married on 1st December 1886. Tassie died six months later on 16th June 1887. Tom died, without ever returning to Ireland, in Australia in 1889. I have his diary and treasured, much studied Bible which he left to and dedicated to my Grandfather, his brother in law. Tom and Tassie started a “Ladies Private School' in the Crusade Lodge Room, Lismore on February 21st 1887 teaching English, mathematics, French, Latin, Greek, Painting in oils and fancy work. Mr. Jones will open classes for Young Gentlemen on Wednesday and Friday Evenings.” This comes from a cutting from a local newspaper found in his Bible.

Trying to find my grandmother whom I believe was on the same voyage of the RMS Potosi leaving London on 28 Oct 1885 and arriving in Adelaide on 9 Dec 1885. Can anyone help find her from London to Adelaide as a paying passenger. Her name was KATE PHILLIPS and she was 11 in 1885 and was travelling with her aunt and uncle, Henry Herbert and Charlotte Phillips and 3 other Phillips children.
