My Great Grandfather Robert Shaw and his wife Betsy nee Ferrier bore a son John Thornton Shaw at sea on their way from Aberdeen to Rockhampton QLD on board Selkirkshire on August 7 1882. The doctor also had to treat Robert at the same time at sea for appendicitis. This would have been a difficult time for a ship's doctor. The doctor's name was doctor Thornton. All ended up well and a grateful Robert Shaw called his son John Thornton Shaw in his honour. The name is still in our family today my name is Phillip Thornton Shaw born in Sydney 1945 and my son is Thomas Thornton Shaw born in Brisbane 1987. I have been trying to research the ship Selkirkshire and I believe it sank at around 1905. I would like to know more detail about the ship and it's machinery and facilities. I am booked to go to Aberdeen, Gamrie and other areas where I can track my family history. I would really appreciate any information including photos that you may be able to find. Thank you Phillip Shaw
