Family member “Elizabeth Kennison” aged 19 from Stirling has been mistranscribed as “Kerrison”. Did she give evidence at the Court of Enquiry after arrival in Adelaide as scarlet fever had killed some 10% of the 700 passengers. She married an Irish gold miner John Smith at Presbyterian Chapel in Sandhurst (Bendigo) in 1862.

Our great great grandmother Harriet Cleaveland arrived on the Shackamaxon 16th March 1862. Shipping Record states she was 18 but she was in fact 16. He birth year was 1846 according to birth records. Harriet was employed by Uriah Hoddinott. Harriet travelled to Harrietville and met John Dyamond. They had their first daughter Emma Eliza Dyamond (Stone) in Harrietville. All other children born in in Bairnsdale. Harriet (Schmitz), Annie (Hendrick), Jane (Schaeche), Eleanor (Lambourne), Sarah (Cole), George B Dyamond (moved to South Africa), John (died in infancy), Edward (died age 24) Syvilla (Buck), John (Jack) Dyamond, (Charles) Arthur Dyamond, Louise age 5 and Cleaveland age 3 died of Diptheria in 1890, Harry E Dyamond (Moved to South Africa). It's great that we have free access to this information. If only we could find how her husband travelled to Australia. We will never give up trying to break that brick wall!
