Journey Notes
The Punjab.- Although this ship hove in sight early yesterday morning, our reporter was unable to board her until 4pm., she having been obliged to make a starboard tack to the westward to enable her to reach the Lightship. The log reports much adverse weather. On May 12th, during a heavy gale from S.E., a sea struck her lifeboat, which was slung to the davits on the port quarter, and carried it away. Boarded the barque Brothers, from Melbourne, bound to London: all well, and wished to be reported. On the day previous, spoke the schooner Go Forward, from the Mauritius, bound to London. Register 26/5/1855
During the heavy gale which blew from the W.N.W. on Friday night, the 28th instance, the emigrant ship Punjab narrowly escaped being stranded. Happily, however, after dragging her anchor fairly 2½ miles, she found firm holding-ground within a mile of the beach. Register 29/5/1855
