Journey Notes

The barque Hooghly arrived at the Lightship anchorage yesterday, after a passage of 104 days. Her last point of departure was the Lizard on the 9th January. Her passage to the Line was tedious - one of 40 days. She has experienced some very rough weather during the voyage, and reports that when in lat.49°S., on February 7, the maintopgallant mast was lost through the heavy pitches made by the ship. On April 4, in lat.58°36'S.,long.116°42'E., she was caught in a heavy squall, which carried away the foretop mast; since that date east winds and calms have predominated. The longitude of the Cape was reached on March 11.[Numerous vessels spoken] Register 20/4/1855
