Journey Notes
This Government emigrant ship, of which the arrival is elsewhere reported, has made an addition of 238 to our population. The voyage has been a protracted one, through the continuance of unfavourable weather in the early part, especially when off the coast of Portugal. A period of 40 days was occupied in reaching the Equator. The run from Tristan d'Acunha has been one of most extraordinary celerity, the log reports being such as to furnish an average speed equal to 209 miles per diem for 30 days. The great circle route was adopted. ...The emigrants speak highly of the captain and surgeon-superintendent, and declare that the utmost harmony prevailed on board. Register 1/5/1855
