My great-grandfather Albert Edward Sykes was aboard this ship on his first journey at 12 years old as an apprentice midshipman. He finished his career as Harbour Master of Rockhampton. He published stories of his experiences in local and syndicated newspapers in the early 1900's under the nom de plume SEA, his memoirs were collated and are in the National Library MS3464 Autobiography of a Mariner.
