Journey Notes
The emigrant ship Australia experienced very fine weather. When near the longitude of the Cape of Good Hope she was becalmed fourteen days, during which period the ship made only five miles of headway. The following vessels were spoken:- November 9th, in latitude 4°19'N., longitude 25°59'W., the English barque Brothers, from Liverpool, bound for Panama, 46 days out. November 22, in lat.16°57'S.,long.27°40'W., the brig Duke of Wellington from Callap, bound for Liverpool, 100 days out. December 18, in lat.37°27'S.,long.15°48'E., the French ship La Moise, from Nantz, bound to Port Louis, 58 days out. On 16th January, at 5 am in lat.38°S.,long.127°E., there was seen what appeared to be a sunken rock or shoal, the water being very much discoloured. This appearance was observed for about twenty miles, extending from about W.S.W. to E.N.E. This shoal is not laid down in any of the chats. January 20th, passed the Dutch barque Fop Smit, which left our port for Batavia January 16. Register 23/1/1856
