Journey Notes

The Swedish barque Helene is a new vessel, on her first voyage. She arrived here from London on Thursday, after being over 120 days at sea. Although her passage has been lengthy, Captain Aberg describes her as a very fast vessel, and on several occasions she has sailed twelve knots per hour on a taut bowline; but, unfortunately, the direction sailed has not always been the ship's course, and as usual, the adverse weather is assigned as the reason for her long trip. When near Kangaroo Island, on the 5th July, the Hobart town whaling brig Dart was spoken, and supplied with a small spar. She had ten tuns of oil on board. Register 10/7/1858
