Journey Notes

The Fleur De Maurice has been to New Caledonia since she left here. She was boarded by a pilot on her return via Newcastle on Wednesday. Captain Walker reports leaving Newcastle in tow of the tug Cabra on the 25th. The first wind was north-east, but soon after the tug left her a heavy gale came on. On the following day the weather moderated, and variable winds continued till passing Cape Howe on the 2nd. On the 4th she passed Wilson's Promontory, and Cape Otway on the 6th. There was a heavy easterly gale blowing there, with the barometer down to 29.45. A barque, supposed to be the Kalahome, was in her company when passing Cape Bridgewater on the 8th. During the concluding part of the passage the barometer ranged very low, and heavy threatening weather was experienced. Register, 12/10/76.
