Journey Notes
'The Collingwood, a very handsome full-rigged ship, arrived on Saturday from London, which was left on May 28, but it was June 3 before taking final departure from the Lizard. Light Variable winds then set in until the 19th, when the north-east trades were fallen in with in lat 25° 14' N., 25° 15' W. and continued to 8° N., where south- west-winds were met. The Equator was crossed on the 7th July in 27° W. The soath-east trades were fresh, but unsettled in directions, and generally so far south that the vessel was close hauled to weather the Brazilian coast. On August 3 reached the meridian of the Cape in 40° S. : During the passage of the Southern Ocean heavy southerly winds drove the vessel to the northward, and the easting was crossed in 39°, with a continuation of very dirty weather all the way from the Cape. The Collingwood was towed into harbour on Saturday afternoon's tide. Register 3/9/1883
