Journey Notes
The STAR OF GREECE is a fine iron ship, which concluded an eighty-six days’ passage by anchoring at the outer harbour at 2.30 a.m. on Monday, and shortly after dawn she was boarded and awarded pratique. On leaving London on March 17 inclement weather obliged the master to remain at the Nore till the 21st, when a start was made under favourable auspices and a good run down Channel made. After quitting the Channel she had head winds till reaching off Cape Finisterre, where the vessel was becalmed for ten days. She crossed the Equator on April 16 in 26° and then had light winds all the way to the longitude of the Cape, which was reached on May 12. Then a course was shaped to 44° S,. and ordinary weather continued to arrival. This vessel has on board one of the heavy 22 ton guns for the Glenelg battery, together with its valuable fittings and appurtenances. Register 12/6/1888
