I departed Tilbury in 1958 with my Father, Mother and Grandmother. arrived at Outer Harbor S.A. end of April 1958. had a wonderfull trip especially as I was only 13 yrs old and had my own privatre cabin on A deck portside. even had my own valet. made my bed cleaned my room polished my shoes and did my laundry he was a very nice person dressed in his white jacket and hat with gold eppelets on his shoulders not bad for a 10 pound Pom ! My parents had there own room as did my grandmother all on A, Deck. Only daw back was when we took on water at Columbo it tasted like disinfectant YUK. food on ship was 5 star and personally delivered to your table in dining room felt like the Ritz. had a bit of rough sea comming past Gibralta but not bad. Had heaps to do on ship whish I could turn the clock back and do it again. On Arrival at Outer harbor my relatives met us and we all crouded into there Hillman minx car with some luggage and our next stop was Smithfield hostel it felt funny for a few nights sleeping in a bed that did not feel like it was going up and down, similar feeling when getting off aircraft after long flight. once I had lost my sea legs feeling we felt so lucky to be here although we came from a beutiful part of England, we lived in Cheshire, Now been in Australia 63 yrs been back once for short ime took wife as she was born in Gawler and never been outside S.A.
