Journey Notes
When 47 days out a very heavy storm arose in 40 S and 50 E. The waves broke over the ship as high as the poop, a rare occurrence with a vessel sailing in ballast. It was during this storm that the third mate was swept off the deck through the rails into the sea, and, although all efforts were made, could not be rescued. [Register]
