My Great Grandfather, Sydney (var Sidney) STAINS, aged 17, was apprenticed 07 Sep 1858 for 4 yrs on British Empire which was owned by J Temperley, Cornhill. Reg No. 700 (looks like). Refer 1824-1910 UK APPRENTICES INDENTUREDIN MERCHAN NAVY. Would there be another source online to locate which ships Sydney STAINS may have served on? He arrived at Swann River Fremantle, Western Australia, on Ship Escort 26-12-1860 as 3rd Mate & according to the Custom's document disembarked 28th Dec 1860. Sydney STAINS married in Perth the following August 3rd (1861) Mary HYDE who was a passenger on the same ship.

Mary Murdoch, 18 years old from County Armagh sailed to Moreton Bay aboard the British Empire landing in February 1859.
