Description
Janet immigrated from North Uist, Scotland, being forced off the land by Lord MacDonald's men as part of the Highland Clearances.
She left with her new husband, Angus Ferguson, her widowed mother and siblings. Some of the family was forced to disembark in Cork, Ireland after smallpox broke out on board. They continued their voyage on the Olivia.
Her family eventually settled in Yahl, Mount Gambier, operating a successful farm and having 12 children.
Janet died on 16 July 1906 at her home in Yahl. She is buried at the Lake Terrace Cemetery.
