John William Bowler, Surgeon, kept a medical journal for the HMS Earl of Durham from 5 April 1843 to 15 Sep 1843 on it's trip to England. John William Bowler was born ca 1806 in St Margarets Lowestoft. He was the son of William Bowler, Gentleman. In 1823 John William Bowler was awarded his L.S.A license. On the 29th of Feb 1840 he married Amelia Clark Carributt in Alverstoke, a small settlement contiguous with the town of Gosport, on the south coast of Hampshire, England. Before his death in 1864 he was a surgeon for the Convict Prison and lived in Portsea Island, Hampshire, England.
He appears to have been the biological father of my fourth great grandfather Capt. John Bowler Rand born bapt 2 Jan 1823 in Westhall, Suffolk, England.
