James and Mary Nelson with their two little girls sailed on the Northern Monach from England to Adelaide Australia in 1876. Unfortunately I don’t have the correct date of departure but James and Mary Nelson were my great grandparents. Mary Nelson born Donovan. Born in Marylebone London 1844. was the daughter of John Donovan, house painter from Bristol. James Nelson was the son of James Nelson of. Belfast I a publican. James Jnr was born in Shankill Belfast Ireland in 1841. He left Ireland in 1858 and joined the Buffs, the 3regiment of Kent ,,was sent to Malta, where after one year there took a shot at his superior officer, and was Court martialed receiving 10 years transportation to Perth Western Australia. He was released in 1869 on good behaviour and met and married Mary Donovan. Sailed to England in 1875 on the Charlotte Padbury later returning to Adelaide South Australia where they settled and had four other children , my grandmother being one of them.
