The ship Hope, from London, hove in sight early on Saturday morning, but was not boarded until noon. She reports a voyage of 108 days from the downs. When in the latitude of Madeira, November 5th, encountered a very heavy gale from the southward, during which the quarter boat was carried away from the davits. The Equator was reach on the 6th December; the longitude of the Cape of Good Hope was made January 3rd; and St.Paul's January 19th. When off Cape Leuwin strong easterly weather was experienced, which lasted three weeks. February 3, spoke the ship Helen Gray, of Dundee, from Melbourne, bound to Batavia, out seven days. The draught of the Hope being 17 feet 6 inches, it is anticipated she will not be able to get into harbour until lightened. Register 15/2/1858

My great, great aunt Hannah Hart (Hobkirk) sailed from London to Adelaide in 1858 on the "Hope"-in 1862 she became the licencee of the Northern Hotel in Port Augusta. Hannah died in Kent Town aged 86 in 1912.
