Miss. Mary Ann LITSTER

I actually think this is Mary Ann Pool who travelled under a false name with her new husband Alexander. Alexander married Mary Ann Waters on 8th May 1847 in Madron, Cornwall, England. I think they had to travel under false names to get free or subsidised passage to Australia as Alexander was an illigitimate son of Mary Blewett who had been imprisoned on several occasions for petty theft. A news article on her death details her trip to Australia as follows: Mrs. Mary Pool, who died at Kapunda last week, was an old and respected resident of the town. She was in her 93rd year, being born at Penzance, in Cornwall, where she married just before leaving for South Australia 72 years ago (1847) on the ship Lady McNaughton with her husband. She settled at Morphett Vale, and afterwards moved to Stockport, and subsequently came to Kapunda about 46 years ago. The late Mr. Wm. Polkinghorne, of Marrabel, was a shipmate of Mrs. Pool's. A family of five sons and three daughters survive. Kapunda Herald (SA : 1878 - 1951) Fri 5 Sep 1919 Page 2 PERSONAL. However, I can't see My William Polkinghorne on the passenger list either!!

I think you may be mistaken. My great great grandparents, Thomas and Ann Litster, travelled on that ship with their four children. The listing shows two children, so I think the two older ones, Alexander and Mary Ann, were classed as adult passengers.
