I arrived in Port Adelaide from England on the Oronsay, 6 November 1954. with my parents, two brothers and one sister. We were taken tothe Finsbury Migrant Camp, and were there for about 8 months. It was filthy, hot, disease ridden and expensive. My father left for Tasmania almost immediately, leaving my mother to cope. We followed him in July (I think) to Tasmania, which we loved and still live there. We are all naturalised Australians but have never forgiven the government of the time for our experience on the camp. My mother worked on the camp and picked grapes in the Barossa Valley. I have written about these experiences in my novel Coma.
